What kind of truths are we searching for?

Italy
£7 billion rich ex Italian PM Silvio Berlusconi apologises for his playboy infidelities to
his seething wife by publishing a letter in a newspaper.
Africa
8 million people in East Africa  are faced  with livelihood loss and malnutrition. 10 children die every minute as a result of malnutrition in developing countries.
UK
15 million people in the UK are struggling with debt repayments. The British government are supporting the opening of casinos across the country to encourage people to gamble;  this includes a 'super-casino' in Manchester. The prisons are already overflowing.
USA
9 year old Semaj is so miserable at home he has tried to runaway by a) driving a stolen car at 90 mph until he hits a tree b) bluff his way onto a plane to another state. While kids like Semaj may be growing up in an unhappy household they have plenty of food like McDonalds to make them 'happy'  1/2 of US children will be overweight by 2010. It's fair to feel pessimistic about how Semaj is likely to grow up.

Indonesia
340,000 people have been made homeless by flooding in Jakarta. Global warming through human activity spewing crap into the air is dangerously rising the earth's temperature. Yet Co2 emissions are rising by 2% every year. 126 species of animal are facing extinction through global warming.

Iraq
130 people have been killed by a bomb blast  at a market in Baghdad, that's 130 more to add to the 650,000 estimated death toll since 2003. Just another day in Iraq, but if 130 people were killed by a bomb in London or LA it would be a different kind of 'human' story.
One boy is shot in an ice rink by wanable gang members in London and it is a tragedy.

Pakistan
Mukhtar Mai is a Pakistani woman who had to fight for legal justice after she was gang-raped as a punishment for a crime her brother was alleged to have committed. She was expected by custom to kill herself. Instead she used compensation money to set up schools to educate girls. In the UK Celeb Big Brother is in trouble for allowing some of its z list celebs to call the female Indian contestent a 'Paki'.
Jordan aka Katie Price is one of the UK's top earning celebs, a millionaire  by posing with plastic 32 G breasts. She recently married a failed greasy popstar wearing a big pink marangue.

These are just a few examples of the craziness that is in our media and our news. We are so consumed by the fast-paced who did what and where and how we don't stop to contemplate and try to resolve together the most important question,WHY?

I agree dear Jameela, Often most important issues are neglected. At the same time shit issues are beheld. This is because man has fear to explore own heart and forgive own essence of wonderful and misterious being. We are satisfied when we deal with us as shit ones but we have fear to disclose our real nature. That is complicated and , sometime, twisted but easy, misteroius and wonderful.

I think the news stations that write this stuff, deliberately look for out of the ordianry, stupid things to write about to catch a readers attention.  Meanwhile, the real problems they do talk about are talked about, but nothing is done to cure the problem AKA Iraq and Africa.  people care about themselves and their own entertainment too much to help others and that's why the government can get away with all the things that it can.  No one has the courage or the initiative to go against the system…

It seems to me you are all correct, and Carl has hit the nail on the head. The fact is we ARE the system. I'm reminded of Socrates and the parable of the cave. When we look at the government or “system” we're only pointing our fingers in disgust at shadows of ourselves, and a commercial driven media is more than happy to serve as much as we'll consume. In fact, bad news sells best. Oh, I actually don't own a TV myself.

More people should stick out their tongue at social gatherings in front of cameras.

The world would be better for it. Laughter is bliss.

Actually, this picture of Einstein was during a moment of deep thought, right before establishing his Special and General flavors of Relativity.

Jam, You’ve hit it, spot on. But I think the outpicturing is a reflection of our inner world. Some of us are perhaps purified to a certain degree but we (the planet) can only evolve as a whole being, with no- one left behind. So it is up to us, as individuals, to continue to raise our own consciousness, speak our voices for change and for good. And by Being the best that we can be, encouraging others to do the same. Eventually our leaders and our media will reflect our collective consciousness. And Oprah is a good start!

I have an idea we should speak about regarding a web site ……..

IT was the tongue of a rebellious dyslexic - who once said ….

” If I can't picture it, I can't understand it ”

and  that in order to find a solution  - for the craziness of the media & our news -

A NEW type of thinking is essential if mankind is to survive and move to higher levels

and he was NOT wrong !
